No More Ramps! The Concourse Connector Is Open
March 21, 2025
Passengers traveling through Huntsville International Airport will now access their gates and ground transportation via the newly renovated concourse connector transition area post-security.
HSV decommissioned the temporary ramp access to the airport concourse as it reopened the primary post-security connection area March 21 following a lengthy closure for renovation. For the past year, the concourse connector area underwent a dramatic transformation including doubling the elevators, escalators and stairwells available to passengers. HSV served more than 1.7 million passengers in 2024 with nonstop service to 14 destinations on four airlines. This year, HSV expects to surpass these numbers with 15 nonstops available.
Now, passengers will be able to access the concourse where their gates and additional retail and restaurants are located via two elevators, four escalators and two stairwells. Previously, the area was served by one elevator, two escalators and a single set of stairs.
Dollars for the project were provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and airport capital funds. EDT-THA consulted on the $14 million project, and Robins & Morton was general contractor.
In addition to the access point into the concourse, egress has also undergone a big change. Three exit lanes have been installed with breach-control doors, increasing convenience and ensuring safety for passengers.
“The breach-control doors will not only make our operations more efficient, they will provide greater security for our passengers and staff,” said Butch Roberts, Airport CEO. “Above all, we want our passengers to enjoy their experience while at HSV, and ensuring their comfort and safety is our number one priority.”
