Better Bathrooms Are Coming
March 21, 2024
The restrooms at Huntsville International Airport are clean, like squeaky clean. But after 30 years, it’s time to bring those pristine porcelain and tile sanctuaries up to date. The concourse restroom project is expected to begin construction in April with the affected area right across from the Spaceport Cafe mid-concourse. These restrooms will be closed for about 10 months while the footprint is doubled and additional family rooms carved out.
The project is paid for by $7 million from the 2024 Airport Terminal Program administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and announced by Rep. Dale W. Strong in February. The grant will fund eligible portions of renovations at the airport such as the expansion of the concourse for the new ADA-compliant restrooms, a new room just for nursing mothers and their babies, a family restroom for parents with children, and a family-size restroom for mobility-challenged adults and their caregivers.
Fixtures will have sustainable features including water-saving faucets and toilets and LED lighting.
During construction, the restroom facilities will remain open at Gate 10. Travelers may also consider visiting the terminal restrooms pre-security and take a moment to empty pockets, stow jackets and hats, and consolidate items before entering the checkpoint.
